With all the hype recently about Hollywood celebrities seen vaping at every event, it’s been easy for us Brits to be overlooked. After all, how can our vaping elite compare to the likes of Johnny Depp, Bruno Mars and Whoopi Goldberg?
Yet there’s a solid, dedicated vaping community here in the UK, with some pretty heavyweight representation on the big screen and across the celebrity world. These are the homegrown headline acts forging a new path for vapers on our side of the Atlantic, showing you don’t need to have a zip code to make vaping cool.
This media mogul used to pack away around 40 cigarettes a day. Now he’s taken up vaping, a habit he’s allowed to indulge on the set of Britain’s Got Talent. He says that e-cigarettes have helped him quit tobacco completely, which is a massive achievement for anyone on that kind of addiction level.
The London model-turned-actress recently made the decision to get her act together and start leading a healthier life. One step she took was to start vaping, and she was photographed a year or so ago sporting her new fashion accessory – and looking good for it, too.
The music maestro has reportedly been seen with an e-cigarette, a move possibly prompted by marriage and children in the hopes of achieving a healthier lifestyle. Whatever the reasons, this Rock DJ can vape all he likes – just as long as he doesn’t get rid of the tattoos.
Our TV fashionista and supermarket stylist is now leading the way in term of smoking trends too. Forget tobacco, that’s so last year – vaping is definitely the way to go if you want to accessorise your life in the best possible way.
The adorable bad boy of One Direction, Zayn has apparently found e-cigarettes since taking his own new direction. A mechanism for coping after the loss of four mates, or a way to ease the stresses of an uncertain career? Who knows, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the traditional alternative – and he has the potential to influence a lot of teen and early 20s smokers with this trend, so keep at it Zayn!
There are plenty of other UK nationals reported to favour vaping, though without hard evidence it’s difficult to be sure if they’re on board or not. Of course, any smoker, celebrity or not, would be mad to discount vaping as an alternative – the health benefits of using e-cigarettes are almost indisputable following a recent Public Health England report. Containing just nicotine, water, flavourings and a couple of other ingredients (propylene glycol and glycerine, notably), the electronic cigarette liquid that vapers inhale is around 95% less harmful than tobacco, containing none of the dangerous chemicals that traditional cigs have in them. And although their electronic counterparts do still use nicotine, the addictive substance in cigarettes, the amount can be regulated and varied to suit the individual. What’s more, it’s the tobacco which doctors believe leads to the various cancers, lung diseases and second-hand smoke problems – all of which is avoided through vaping.
So the next time you consider lighting up, why not think about the folk above and try to take a leaf out of their book? After all, you’ve nothing to lose and – if vaping works for you – a heck of a lot to gain.
